WHAT IS A 4-H PROJECT?

4-H Projects

In 4-H, a project is the hands-on activity you choose to explore. It’s your chance to learn by doing, guided by helpful resources, dedicated volunteers, and The Denton County Extension Office. There are opportunities like community service, leadership, and contests that can be associated with your project. All youth members must enroll in at least one project.

Tips for choosing a project:

Select a project (or projects) you like.
Consider the money and time it will take. Can parents/guardians help?
Consider the space and equipment that you have at home.
a 4-H project should be fun, serve a purpose, and be worth the effort.
Select only the number of projects you can complete
Contact your local county club to see which projects are already offered where you live.

Denton County Clover Kids Projects

🍀 Clover Kids Monthly Group

Join our countywide Clover Kids group for fun, hands-on activities designed especially for our youngest 4-H members! Each month features a different activity or 4-H project area.

🔬 STEM 4-H Club

The STEM 4-H Club offers several opportunities specifically for Clover Kids:

📷 Photography

Explore photography, learn basic skills, and participate in age-appropriate activities.

🐞 Entomology

Discover the world of insects while learning the basics of collecting, identifying, and studying them.

🍀 Monthly Clover Kids Meeting

A special Clover Kids activity is offered at 6:00 PM on the same day as the club's regular monthly meeting. Activities vary throughout the year.

🐔 Heart of Denton 4-H

Fancy/Breeding Poultry Mentoring

Interested in showing fancy or breeding poultry? Experienced Heart of Denton 4-H families are available to mentor Clover Kids and their families as they learn about selecting, raising, caring for, and preparing poultry for exhibition.

How it works: This is a family-to-family mentoring opportunity rather than a regularly scheduled project group. There are currently no regular poultry project meetings.

Self-Directed Projects

Have an interest you want to explore but don’t see a 4-H project that quite fits? A Self-Directed Project may be a great option!

Self-directed projects allow 4-H members to explore a topic or interest that is not currently covered by one of our established project areas. With guidance from a 4-H volunteer and your County Extension Agent, members can develop their interest into a meaningful 4-H project with opportunities to set goals, learn new skills, and document their experiences.

Because these projects fall outside of established Texas 4-H project areas, curriculum, activities, contests, and other resources may be limited or may not be available through the Texas 4-H Youth Development Program. Members and families should be prepared to take an active role in finding resources and developing their project experience.
